Titans Look to Utilize Size in 2017-18 Season
The Papillion La-Vista South Titans haven’t had a winning season since 2014-15 and they haven’t been to Lincoln since 2012-13. Their climb to the top of .500 mountain is looking like it will come close to peaking this year, though. The Titans are returning just three players, but head coach Joel Hueser isn’t worried.
“The Titans do not return a lot of experience, but [we] do have a lot of pieces to the puzzle,” Hueser said. “With hard work and good team play, [we] can come together and be a very competitive team down the stretch.”
The Titans scheme will start with their two power forwards, Lok Wur and Tuach Dol, who are listed at 6’8” and 6’9”. Last season, Wur led the Titans with two blocks per game, and he scored 8.3 points per game (a stat that will only improve this season). Dol led the team in rebounds with seven per game. With his size, watch out for Dol in the paint.
“Tuach Dol and Lok Wur have great length to complement a host of guards led by Chase Norblade,” Hueser said.
Although some might say the Titans live in the shadow of the perennially successful Papillion-La Vista program, coach Hueser said he believes in his community that is Papillion, Nebraska.
“We have a great school and community. We are proud to represent Papio South and the community of Papillion,” Hueser said.
The Titans begin the Early Bird Classic on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 5:15 p.m. against Kearney at Lincoln High. Depending on the winners and losers, they will play at home on Saturday at either 1 or 2:45 p.m.
