Junior Jays fly past Mustangs in Thursday night showdown

"We're putting our foot in our own mouth. That's all we're doing, boys!"

That's what was heard along the home sideline at Lyle Buell Stadium on Thursday night when Millard North hosted fourth-ranked Omaha Creighton Prep. Behind a 14-point halftime lead, the Junior Jays came away with a 35-14 victory over the Mustangs.

"I felt good about the win," Prep head coach Tim Johnk said. "Especially with as short handed as we were. We had a lot of kids step up tonight."

Prep led the charge on offense with their explosive run game, fluctuating between seniors Elisha Burts and Jackson Bartling at the halfback position. Burts found the end zone four times for Johnk's Jays.

"Elisha Burts had a great game. He's very capable of doing that every week," Johnk said. "[Burts and Bartling] are both very capable guys, but Elisha played really well."

3-1 Omaha Creighton Prep will return to action next Thursday, September 20, when they'll play host to cross-town rival and seventh-ranked Omaha Westside. Some key Junior Jays are expected to return from injuries next week, including offensive lineman Ryan Bena and fullback/defensive lineman Luke Sims. Millard North will look to earn their first win of the season as they host Fremont next Thursday.
