Storm conjure fifth win in rout of Huskies

Botched punt. Interception. Fumble.

They all happened within two minutes of each other in a crazy first quarter when Elkhorn South hosted Omaha Northwest on Thursday night. The two fumbles favored the Huskies, who opened scoring with a 12-yard Joe Miller touchdown rush, giving Northwest a 14-7 first quarter advantage. Elkhorn South went on to own the second quarter: the Storm scored 34 unanswered points to take a 41-14 lead into halftime.

"We just always want to keep working hard," Elkhorn South senior halfback Cooper Jewett said. "We understand that mistakes are part of football and you've just got to bounce back from it and keep your head up."

Jewett cashed in a second half touchdown to round his total out at five on the night. The clock ran through a quick final half, and the Storm came out on top by a 62-20 score.

"We just want to come out here and do what we do at practice every single day," Jewett said. "The outcome of the game will be a result of how we practice."

Elkhorn South will host eighth-ranked Omaha Creighton Prep on Friday, October 19 to conclude their regular season. Omaha Northwest will return to action when they travel to Columbus next Friday in search of their fourth win of the season.
