The Rise of Soso Marin

A smiling person holds a volleyball outside Millard North High School, wearing a black outfit with "11." The mood is positive and sporty.

Millard North junior Soso Marin didn’t just have a good season. She put together one of the most complete, impactful years in the state and is setting herself up to be the engine behind the Mustangs’ next run this fall.

Marin finished the season leading Millard North in kills per set (2.6) and hitting percentage (.301), a combination that speaks to both volume and efficiency. She wasn’t just taking swings. She was scoring, consistently, against top competition.

That production didn’t happen by accident.

“I feel like my work over the last year has really paid off,” Marin said. “I can’t wait to see how it will go next year.”

Her offensive jump came alongside another major strength. Marin led the team in total blocks with 126, establishing herself as a true two-way presence at the net. Her ability to read hitters, anticipate tendencies, and stay disciplined with her footwork turned preparation into points.

That preparation showed up everywhere. Against elite opponents, Marin’s timing and positioning consistently disrupted offenses, flipping momentum and creating transition opportunities for Millard North.

Individually, Marin points to her blocking and shot selection as the areas that took the biggest leap.

“I feel like my blocking and my shots were something that improved a lot this year,” she said. “I can’t wait to include that in my games to come.”

A big part of that growth came from chemistry. With new setters in the lineup, communication became non-negotiable as the season progressed.

“It helped to talk to them as the season went on, especially with new setters I haven’t played with before,” Marin said. “In the end it helped both of us trust each other even more.”

That trust showed up late in the year, when the Mustangs were at their sharpest offensively.

When asked about her favorite moments from the season, Marin didn’t hesitate. The Battle at Buell stood out, a football-stadium triangular between the three Millard schools that left a lasting impression on the entire team.

After matches and tough practices, Marin keeps things simple. Music, reflection, and honest self-evaluation.

“My go-to way to reset after a game was to listen to music and reflect on my mistakes and see how I could’ve changed the game,” she said.

Recharging Off the Court

Between matches, practices, and long school days, finding time to reset off the court matters just as much as preparation on it. For athletes, that reset often comes through good food and a chance to slow things down.

That’s where Meddys fits naturally into the routine. Located at 17255 Davenport St, Suite 111, Meddys brings fresh Mediterranean flavors to Omaha and has quickly become a go-to spot for meals that feel both satisfying and balanced.

Originally from Wichita, Kansas, Meddys is known for its award-winning hummus, savory shawarmas, and handcrafted cocktails, offering a relaxed environment that’s easy to step into after a long day. It’s the kind of place that reflects the balance athletes aim for during a demanding season. Meddys is a proud sponsor of OmahaHSSports and is not affiliated with any individual athlete mentioned.

As Marin heads into the offseason, the focus is already clear. Improving her serve and defense are at the top of the list, rounding out a skill set that already makes her one of the most reliable front-row players in the area.

With another year of experience ahead and a foundation built on work ethic, awareness, and versatility, Soso Marin isn’t just returning for her senior season. She’s gearing up to lead Millard North toward something bigger.

And based on what she showed this past season, the Mustangs will be counting on her every step of the way.
