A-5 championship to come down to top five showdown
Eight weeks.
One game.
The district A-5 football championship has come down to a matchup between two heavyweights, second-ranked Omaha Westside and fourth-ranked Millard South, which will take place at Lyle Buell Stadium on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Westside’s rock solid defense has carried Brett Froendt’s team to an 8-0 record. The Warriors have ceded 57 points in those eight games for an average of seven per game. That stretch includes four defensive shutouts.
But, for Westside halfback Avante Dickerson, this week is only the beginning of may be a historic state championship run.
“It would be a big win for us,” Dickerson said. “We would go undefeated and have every playoff game at home.”
The 7-1 Millard South Patriots, who have not lost a game at home this season, are looking to stop the Warriors and claim the A-5 title. Lineman Kohl Herbolsheimer believes the matchup is a monumental game for his Patriot squad.
“Beating an undefeated team going into the postseason would bring a lot of momentum and confidence,” Herbolsheimer said.
The two teams will go head-to-head on Thursday, October 18 at 7 p.m. Catch the action at Millard South’s Lyle Buell Stadium.
