T-Birds take late-game deposit from National Bank of Chucky, prevent Junior Jay upset
With sophomore phenom Chucky Hepburn's go-ahead bank 3 and dunk to end the game, the top-ranked Bellevue West boys defeated fifth-ranked Omaha Creighton Prep in a 69-66 thriller. The Thunderbirds are now 2-0 against the Junior Jays this season — their first victory being in the Metro Tournament championship.
"We're competitors, that's what [the win] says about us," Hepburn said. "I'm proud of my team and the way they fought."
Hepburn and Nico Felici led the way with 17 points apiece for Bellevue West. Husker signee Akol Arop finished with 22 for Prep.
The 21-1 T-Birds will visit Elkhorn South today at 2:45 p.m. The Junior Jays, dropping to 17-4 with the loss, will travel to Kansas City Rockhurst today at 4:30 p.m.
