Tyrece Griggs' game-winner sends shockwaves, Packers win Class A
Not many people thought sixth-seeded Omaha South had a legitimate shot of taking Class A — but they brought home the hardware on Saturday night.
It was a 56-56 tie with under ten seconds left in the state final. Fourth-seeded Omaha Central had the ball, but then Tyrece Griggs shocked the whole state of Nebraska by stealing it right out of John Tonje's hands and scoring the game-winning layup. Although the Eagles were given a second chance that they maybe shouldn't have gotten, with the referees adding 3.3 seconds onto the zeroed clock, the score ultimately stood: the Packers won their sixth state title by a 58-56 score.
Griggs and Ta'Vion Anderson led the 21-6 Packers with 12 points apiece. Latrell Wrightsell finished with 18 points for the 22-6 Eagles, while John Tonje added 15 points and eight boards.
