Week 2: 2018 Class A football power rankings

We're proud to present our week two football power rankings, brought to you by PRIME Roofing:

10. Lincoln Pius X (NR, 1-1)

The Thunderbolts sneak into our week two rankings following a 42-39 loss to sixth-ranked Millard South. They’re 1-1 on the season with a shutout win over Lincoln East. The tenth spot in our rankings is a close call. Although there are other worthy teams for the spot, we believe Pius’ down to the wire quality loss against the Patriots puts them in the top ten.

9. Elkhorn South (NR, 2-0)

The Storm took on Millard North and came away with a 17-6 win. They’re 2-0 on the year with a 27-20 week one win over cross-town rival Elkhorn.

8. Millard West (5, 1-1)

Second-ranked Omaha Burke played host to the Wildcats, handing West a 31-14 defeat - their first loss of the season. Millard West is now 1-1, with a 35-0 week one win over rival Millard North.

7. Omaha Westside (7, 2-0)

The Warriors took on the 0-2 Papillion-La Vista Monarchs at Foundation Field, winning 38-7. Their first week win was a 52-0 blowout over Bellevue East.

6. Millard South (6, 2-0)

The Patriots road-tripped to Lincoln to square off against the Pius X Thunderbolts. It came down to the wire, but Millard South ended up on top 42-39. They’re 2-0 on the season with a 27-0 first week win over Gretna.

5. Grand Island (8, 2-0)

Grand Island took to the road for the first time this season and came away with a 42-27 win over 0-2 previously-ninth-ranked Lincoln High. They’re 2-0 on the season, with their first win being a 46-0 shutout over 2017 state runner-up Kearney.

4. Omaha North (4, 1-1)

The Vikings picked up their first win of the year - 48-6 - over share-a-stadium rival Omaha Northwest. They’re 1-1 on the season, with their first week loss being a 12-7 grudge match against top-ranked Creighton Prep.

3. Bellevue West (3, 2-0)

Michael Huffman’s squad breezed past cross-town rival Bellevue East with an 81-6 victory. The Thunderbirds are 2-0 on the year with a 49-43 first week win over Lincoln High.

2. Omaha Burke (2, 2-0)

Nick Henrich and Co. pulled out a 31-14 win over previously-fifth-ranked Millard West. They’re 2-0 on the season, including a 49-28 win over Lincoln Southeast. As with last week, putting Burke at number two was a very tough decision. For now, we believe Prep's first week victory over North trumps Burke's win against Millard West.

1. Omaha Creighton Prep (1, 2-0)

The Junior Jays continued their winning ways with a 59-13 win over Omaha Central. They’re 2-0 on the year, prevailing 12-7 over fourth-ranked Omaha North in week one.
